Leaving Corporate for Property: Mickey Ledhar Manages 13 Properties
Podcast EpisodeAfter more than 20 years in the corporate world, Mickey Ledhar walked away from her salary with no idea what her days would look like. Her story is an honest look at leaving corporate: the fear, the false start, and the mindset shift that finally made it work.
On this episode of the Self-Unemployed Podcast, Mickey tells me how she went from a stalled first year to managing 13 properties, five of them her own, without using any of her own money.
Why Leaving Corporate Felt So Hard
In 2023, Mickey lost her dad, and it changed how she saw her time. She realised it wasn’t really her own any more. So she took a big leap: no salary, no structure, and nobody telling her what to do each morning.
That freedom was harder than she expected. She went to her mentors with a simple question: “What does my day look like?” The answer was daily actions. Small, planned tasks gave her days a shape again, and the structure she had lost came back.
A Year of Nothing, Then Three Deals in Three Months
Mickey’s first year at a property academy went nowhere. She was working on her own, her motivation faded, and her confidence took a real knock. After 12 months, she had done nothing.
Then she joined the Samuel Leeds Academy, surrounded herself with people on the same path, and it clicked. Within her first three months, she completed three BRRR deals (Buy, Refurbish, Refinance, Rent).
“I didn’t use any of my own money. So this was all investor finance, not mine.”
Imposter Syndrome After Leaving Corporate
Even with deals done, the doubts didn’t disappear. Mickey says she has always felt imposter syndrome. Her answer isn’t to wait for it to go away. Instead, she acts anyway:
“Let that person sit in your head or your shoulder… but do it anyway.”
She also writes down what she has achieved. That matters, because the things you do every day soon start to feel normal. As I often say on the podcast, what’s ordinary to you is extraordinary to other people.
Key Lessons From Mickey’s Journey
- Give your days structure. Decide your daily actions before you need motivation.
- Don’t do it alone. The right people make every problem feel smaller.
- Keep it quiet until it works. Mickey told nobody except her husband and her mum.
- Expect imposter syndrome when you grow, and act anyway.
- Write down your wins, so you can see your own value.
Thinking About Making the Leap?
This is where mindset meets property. If you are thinking about leaving corporate yourself, the strategy matters, but the mindset matters more. That is exactly what we work on in Reprogram Your Mind, my community on Skool: the identity, structure and support that turn a leap into a plan.
